SUNDAY'S MESSAGE

Face of mercy

"May your mercy come quickly to meet us, for we are in desperate need." – Psalm 79:8

There are some human tragedies that defy the imagination: the death of a young child to cancer, the taking of innocent lives by terrorists, utter destruction caused by forces of nature. In catastrophes like these, it is nearly impossible for us to see God's goodness.

What can we say when there is no evidence of God's goodness in what has happened? Look for God's face. It's during times like this that God loves to show his face of mercy.

Nothing happens that isn't ultimately good for us, good for God, or good for someone else. If the tragedy is the result of sin or some terrible human blunder, then you can expect God's redeeming sympathy and the kiss of his tender mercy. And when God comes to comfort, you and I can endure anything.
