"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." -Luke 12:34
The philosopher Plato might ask you a question like this: "Is it better to be a millionaire or to have the mind of a millionaire? As a poor man, would you rather that someone gives you a check for a million dollars, or gives you the mind of a person who knows how to earn a million dollars?"
The wise answer, of course, is the latter choice because, even though your reward is not instant, you are able to attain millions of dollars through your own intelligence, wisdom, skills, and hard work. This is one reason why you repeatedly see lottery winners ending up in worse straits than they were in before they won the money. They end up in all sorts of debt when the money runs out and they have no ability to regain what is lost.
That happens because they don't have the treasure behind the treasure. Do you know what I mean by that? They don't have the knowledge and the maturity to take care of so much money, so much treasure.
But the treasures in the heavens, those things only of God, are eternal. Those treasures, once embraced and accepted, can never be tainted.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for helping me to put my priorities in order. Thank you for showing me that wisdom and skill and success is nothing if not being used according to your will. Thank you, for granting me your treasures in the heavens. Amen.
Reflection: What are God's treasures in your life?
