Positive Minute - Ken Duncan

New again...

Written By Dr. Lawrence Wilkes

"Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven." -Matthew 10:32

I was introduced to a friend's father a few years ago, who was nearing 90 years old at the time. We became very good friends very quickly. One day, he took me out to lunch and, before the waiter came, George turned to me and said, "You have something I want."

"What is it, George? You need me to pick up the tab?" I thought that maybe he had forgotten his wallet.

"No, no," he says. "Not that. You have something that I see in you and I would like to have it. You have something that I know comes from God. Please explain it to me. And can I have it, too?"

He was not a Christian, but he'd heard many things about the faith. So, I gave him the gospel message that Jesus Christ came and died for all people, and that all of us are sinners who need redemption. Therefore, he became our Savior."

At that point, George said, "Can I have that?" On that day in a restaurant in Long Beach, CA, George was drawn to Jesus and became his follower. George prayed aloud not caring who heard or who was watching because he was in earnest. He wanted Jesus in his heart and in his life to change him and help him to become new and renewed. Even at his advanced age, it changed George's life and he was beaming as we concluded our prayer.

When our lunch arrived, he looked around and said to me, "I don't know why, but everything looks brighter to me; everything looks more cheerful, and the food tastes better than ever." At a time near the end of George's life, his life became new again!

Prayer: Dear God, thank you that you care about us all, no matter what our ages, or what our stages in life. Thank you for loving me as your child every day. Amen.

Reflection: When did you come to know Christ as your Savior? How did your life change after accepting him into your heart?
